CENTER FOR CIVIC POLICY

Healthcare Affordability & Medicaid Forward

Creating a healthier New Mexico for us all.

As a proud member of the New Mexico Together for Healthcare (NMT4HC) coalition, the Center for Civic Policy helped secure a historic victory for healthcare access in New Mexico. House Bill 4 (HB 4) passed the Legislature  and signed by the Governor this year, securing sustainable funding for the Health Care Affordability Fund (HCAF) nmtogether4health.org.

Key Wins:

  • HB 4 strengthens the HCAF by gradually increasing the share of health insurance surtax revenue directed to coverage, protecting families as enhanced federal premium tax credits expire and Medicaid cuts hit nmtogether4health.org
  • Along with major investments in HB 2, these measures could protect coverage for up to 46,600 residents and reduce costs for 122,000 statewide nmtogether4health.org

This victory was made possible by the courage and persistence of the NMT4HC network—including the Center for Civic Policy’s advocacy work—amplifying community voices from Las Cruces to Gallup to push policymakers to act.

Stop Ivey-Soto

State Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto has been credibly accused by multiple women of a long history of sexual harassment, bullying, and abuse. Several groups have called on Ivey-Soto to resign. Short of his resignation, there are additional steps that Senate leadership can take to hold him accountable and prevent further harm.

New Mexico deserves better.
