Returning Your Absentee Ballot

You have several options for delivering your absentee ballot.  However, always make sure that whether you place it in the mail or hand deliver it, you always follow all of the instructions to secure it in the required envelopes and fill in the required voter information under the privacy flap of the official return envelope.  The information that must be provided in order for your ballot to be accepted is your signature and the last four digits of your social security number.

All absentee ballots must include the required information and be received by 7:00PM on Election Day, November 3, 2020 to be accepted and counted.

By Hand Delivery

You may deliver your absentee ballot to the office of the county clerk or any early or Election Day voting location in your county by 7:00PM on November 3, 2020.  You can search for a voting location near you at nmvote.org

By Drop Box

Many counties have chosen to setup absentee ballot drop boxes inside and outside of voting locations to make it even easier to return your absentee ballot.

For your convenience, we have collected a statewide list of drop boxes available here but also please check with your county clerk for the latest information on drop box locations and hours of operation.

Delivery Restrictions

Pursuant to state law only a voter, caregiver to that voter or member of that voter’s immediate family may deliver that voter’s absentee ballot to the county clerk in person or by mail. “Immediate family” means the spouse, children, parents or siblings of a voter. If any one of these authorized people returns the mailed ballot of the voter, they must sign the official return envelope.

Ballot Tracking

You may track the status of your absentee ballot HERE.  This website will provide information regarding whether or not the ballot was received by the county clerk and whether it has been accepted.

You may also call their local county clerk for information on the status of their absentee ballot.
